About Rare Light Candle Co.

Rare Light Candle Co. began with a story close to our hearts.

Our youngest daughter was born with a rare genetic syndrome, and from the very beginning, her life has been marked by challenges that have required extraordinary perseverance. Yet alongside those challenges is a fierce determination and an indescribable joy that continually remind us of the beauty found in the unexpected. She has taught us that strength and gentleness can exist together, that joy can be found in the midst of uncertainty, and that even the smallest victories are worth celebrating.

As we navigated her educational journey, we reached a point where we knew she needed something different. When the school system was unable to fully meet her needs, we made the decision to homeschool her. What began as a search for a better way to support her learning became an opportunity to discover new ways for her to grow, explore, and experience the joy of learning.

Candle making began as one of those opportunities—a hands-on homeschool project that allowed us to practice measuring, pouring, blending, following directions, and developing new skills together. What started as a simple lesson soon became something more. We discovered the beauty of creating something by hand, the quiet satisfaction of the process, and the joy of turning ordinary moments into something meaningful. Before long, candle making had grown beyond a homeschool project and Rare Light Candle Co. began to take shape.

The name Rare Light was inspired by our daughter herself. Her story has reminded us that light does not have to be loud to be extraordinary, and that some of the most beautiful things in life are found in the places we might least expect. There is a rare kind of light in perseverance, in hope, in unexpected joy, and in the courage to keep moving forward when the path looks different than we imagined.

For our family, candles have come to represent something deeper than fragrance. They represent peace in the middle of hard circumstances, hope that holds steady through uncertainty, and the reminder that little moments deserve to be celebrated. In the midst of appointments, therapies, learning challenges, and the many demands that can accompany raising a child with special needs, we have come to understand just how important it is to pause. To take a deep breath. To recognize a small victory. To make room for beauty and gratitude, even when life feels complicated.

These moments may seem ordinary to someone else, but to us, they are anything but small.

Rare Light was created from this understanding: that life does not have to be perfect to be beautiful, that peace can be found even in the midst of difficulty, and that there is always room to celebrate the good that exists alongside the hard.
